Exploring by foot

First hike of the the year February 2021.

We have been missing the great outdoors and being in nature and of course the dogs love the outings and tagging along with their humans.

Otter Creed Outdoor Recreational Are is one of our favorite places to hike. The perk being that it is a short drive with lots of nature to explorer. We have yet to hit all the trails.

I have to hand it to the park management as they have done a great job with keeping up with the trails and making them easy accessible, while keeping the feel of being one with nature.

On this trip we wanted to take a look at The Blue Whole. We have seen the sign each time we visit and we have tried through the summer to go see it, but every time we tried to go, the parking lot was always full. Since this visit came at the beginning of February, we were able to see what all the fuss was about.

We were not disappointed!

We now realize that this is a great spot to fish and I am convinced that it is perfect swimming hole in the summer.

The hike from the parking lot was a short 1/2 mile, with a leisurely trail that wanders through the woods and ends up at the creek bank. From there you can walk up and down the creek to see the amazing views.

We have determined that this spot will be a nice hike from the camping site.

Otter Creek never fails on its beauty and surrounding you in nature. On this specific visit, while we were on our way back to the parking area, we kept hearing owl calls and come to find there were two guys putting on their fishing gear and while doing so, they had an owl call on to lure in the owl residents in, to capture some pictures of them. Super cool! And to think, we were able to witness an owl flying in during the day.

Until next time,
